This week we received a 1-2 gut punch – first from the US Supreme Court’s abhorrent gutting of section 2 of the Voting Rights Act of 1965, which then emboldened Republicans in the FL State Senate to approve this cowardly map, threatening four of our Congressional seats that are currently held by Democrats.
I know it’s hard to see, but Seminole County’s Congressional boundaries have not changed much, if at all. With the continued spotlight on Cory Mills’ abhorrent behavior, Congressional District 7 is one of the main targets of the Democratic Party this election cycle.
National focus alone won’t win this election: we need everyone to help us.
Can you help us knock on some doors and talk to some of your neighbors? We have 3 opportunities this weekend in Sanford, Casselberry and Altamonte Springs. Having conversations allows us to better understand voter concerns, and it also provides us an opportunity to communicate important information, such as the need for voters to renew their mail ballots.
If not canvassing, are you willing to make phone calls to Seminole County voters? We have an in-person phone bank on Saturday, and an in-person or at-home phone bank on Sunday.
Never forget that not that long ago, Florida voted for Obama – twice! That success was forged through the hard work and countless volunteer hours spent talking to neighbors here in Seminole County, and beyond.
Don’t lose hope: join us in this fight, and let’s flip the script on the Republican power-grabs by flipping our own congressional district back to BLUE!
I appreciate your support, and your dedication to our cause.
Thank you,
Andrew M. Lisa
Chair
Seminole County Democratic Party
