SemDems Volunteer Orientation

Leslie Guerra, one of the office managers and the Executive Board Secretary, is hosting volunteer orientations for those who want to learn more about what the SemDems do and how to get involved.

She started the volunteer orientations before the 2022 elections for people who have completed the SemDems Volunteer Survey or for new people who came across the event on Mobilize. Guerra spends about ninety minutes to two hours explaining what the SemDems do, differences between precinct captains and regular volunteers, and how to sign up for events.

The SemDems do various activities, including voter registration at farmers markets, canvassing to distribute candidate information, and phone banking. This variety of events allows for someone to pick how and when they contribute.

Guerra also discusses other ways to get involved, such as becoming a SemGem who gives money every month which is used to support various activities as well as candidates.

There are also multiple caucuses and committees that people can be involved with that Guerra talks about, including the Rainbow SemDems, the Environmental Advocates Committee, and the Hispanic SemDems.

She did two orientations a month before the elections, one in the office and one on Zoom, but as there has been more interest she has moved to one a month in the SemDems Office in Longwood.

The next orientation is taking place Oct. 22 from 1-3p.m. at the SemDems Office. Sign up today!
