Seminole County Democrats stand firmly against the illegal use of military force by the Trump Administration in Venezuela on January 3, 2026.
The people of Venezuela deserve nothing less than freedom and self-determination. Replacing one authoritarian regime with one of our own making does not accomplish this.
President Trump already made it clear today that his purpose for invading Venezuela is to “take over the country” and seize their oil. This is a clear violation of international law, and pays little regard to the dignity of the Venezuelan people.
Furthermore, at home, the American people by and large do not want yet another “regime change” war. With the living memory of the failed, costly Iraq War still firmly intact for many of us, we know it simply doesn’t work, for either nation.
It is also clear that Trump desperately needs a distraction from his own governing incompetence.
With working Americans continuing to struggle in affording basic living expenses, like food, housing, healthcare, and utilities, and an Epstein Files scandal that simply won’t go away no matter how hard he tries, a brand-new war is all he has left to divert our attention.
So much for an “America first” presidency.
Seminole County Democrats are clear. We do not cheer illegal acts of war abroad, especially while our own problems at home continue to go unaddressed.
Simply put, we do not want to get suckered into yet another war that fails to deliver anything of lasting value for either nation involved.
