Grit, Determination, and a Passion for Voting: A Tribute to Vara Deloney (1957-2023)
Seminole County has lost a great champion for voting with the passing of Vara Deloney.
Vara was known for her spirit, her fight, and her sheer grit. She was determined to clear the path for anyone who wanted to vote. No obstacle was tolerated. Just one example: In the 2022 General Election, she found out that the streets would be blocked around the Sanford Library during early voting.
That was absolutely unacceptable to Vara.
She went to the City of Sanford and insisted that parking places were reserved for people who wanted to vote. And she didn't stop there. She guarded those parking places throughout early voting - physically standing in the parking lot to ensure they were used for the intended purpose.
We will deeply miss Vara. Her passion for voting - and for Sanford - will always be an inspiration.
We encourage you to visit Vara’s memorial page and share your memories and photos. The family has invited donations to be made to the SemDems in memory.
