Sheila Moran

Our Activist of the Month for November, Sheila Moran, grew up just south of London, as an only child.  Her father died whilst serving in the army.  Her mother taught business courses and Sheila caught the travel bug at an early age. Through working at British Airways, she visited Africa, Asia, Europe, North and South America. But, she’s still missing Australia and Antarctica. Her bucket list included The Taj Mahal, the Pyramids, Niagara Falls, the Great Wall of China.  But what she loved most is the Trevi Fountain in Rome.

Whilst on her travels she met her husband John (now deceased) who was from New Jersey and they had two children and now two grandchildren.  Together, they owned an office supply company.

Sheila didn’t attend college until they moved to Florida. She has a BSc from UCF and worked for Seminole County Public Schools for almost 20 years where she felt unable to politically active.  She moved back to the UK for almost 10 years to care for her mother and worked as the Advocacy Manager for The Sunnybank Trust, a charity for those mentally challenged.

After her mother’s death, Sheila returned to Florida and at last indulged in Democratic activism! She was vice-chair for the SemDems under Jeff Wilkinson and has since become Fundraising co-chair with Deb Jepson.  Fundraising is a challenge, but nothing works without funding in politics and our fundraising successes are growing.  She so enjoys being with others who share her views and she wants to fight for the future for her grandchildren.

Sheila is a life-long supporter of Manchester United Football Club, a news junkie, a gardener, a movie lover and she belongs to a book club. She also enjoys knitting and Sudoku.

Sheila has always wanted to be American as she has admired the kindness, generosity, joy and work ethic of the American people. Her fear is that the current administration is a threat to that!
