Yes, it does!
We know that phone banking works — after all, Seminole County went blue in 2018 for the first time since, well, ever. We used a combination of phone banking, postcards, and canvassing.
However, we cannot canvass and talk to voters face-to-face until it is safe to do so. Phone banking is the next best way to connect with voters.
Phone banking can increase voter turnout by approximately 2 – 4%. That is HUGE when you consider the razor thin line between victory and defeat in the last few elections.
Let’s be clear: live phone banking is effective, robocalls are not. (Actually, getting a prerecorded phone call is pretty offensive to many people).
Why Phone Banking Works
Phone banking is real-time, two-way communication that is real and genuine, especially when it is done by volunteers, not paid telemarketers.
- Besides canvassing, phone banking is the most effective way to clean lists (remove invalid or bad information).
- Phone banking helps identify new voters (like teens who are about to turn 18).
- Phone banking helps voters feel more comfortable and confident about our candidates.
- Phone banking promotes Vote By Mail, the safest and surest way to vote.
