Florida Democratic Party Statement on the Fifth Circuit's Decision Holding DACA Unconstitutional

The following statement should be attributed to the Chairman of the Florida Democratic Party, Manny Diaz:

"I am extremely disappointed by the Fifth Circuit's decision holding that DACA is unconstitutional. However, I am not discouraged, and we will remain focused on working harder against the extreme agenda pushed by extreme Republican officials. Now more than ever, we have to fight together because Dreamers need a path to citizenship.

"Although the court's stay provides a temporary reprieve for DACA recipients, their lives remain in a limbo, condemning them to live in fear, and sending them into the shadows once more in the only country they know, the country they have always called home. Thanks to DACA, 'Dreamers' have been able to enjoy access to higher education and jobs, start families, buy homes, open businesses and create jobs, pay taxes and contribute substantially to the economy of our country. Their contributions to this nation are immeasurable.

"A decade ago, I worked with the Obama-Biden Administration to secure these protections for these new Americans. Seven years later, I joined the lawsuit against the Trump administration to preserve them. The Florida Democratic Party believes that everyone – regardless of race, gender, or differences – is deserving of a life of dignity and respect, and we will continue to fight for vulnerable communities.

"We need common sense leaders in Congress to provide a permanent solution. There is no time to waste. A path to citizenship will grant these 'Dreamers' the legal status they deserve and make official what so many of them know in their hearts: they belong here; this is their home too."
