Deborah Poulalion

Our August Activist of the month, Deborah Poulalion has now filed to run for Seminole County Supervisor of Elections in 2020 (www.deb4elections.com). She is a qualified professional who will be a strong leader for the supervisor of elections office. After earning a master’s degree in mass communication from the University of Florida, Deborah built a successful career as a professional data analyst and communicator. She currently analyzes survey data and reports results for a global professional organization. Previously she was an Adjunct Professor at both Seminole State College and Valencia College in journalism and public speaking. She is Six Sigma Green Belt certified.

Deborah Poulalion has lived, worked, and played in Seminole County for more than 25 years. Her sons, Joshua and Jacob, graduated from Lyman High School and will soon complete degrees at the University of Florida. The family loves to hike and kayak in Seminole County’s beautiful natural lands. And, she volunteers at UF’s Montbrook site, helping to uncover 5-million-year-old remains of turtles, birds, fish, gators, and gomphotheres. In the lab, she cleans and prepares fossils for further research.

She has led voter registration efforts throughout the county. As a mother of two sons in college, she is passionate about engaging the next generation of voters. Deborah has been a leader in voter registration outreach. She is known for speaking out for local causes including early voting at Seminole State College and protecting Seminole’s rural boundary. She served as a volunteer with Seminole County schools and is a current member of the Longwood 2019 Charter Advisory Committee.

Deborah says that democracy means a lot to her because her father fled from Communist Hungary, alone as a teenager, and came to the United States in 1956. Growing up, she was exposed to many other refugees who had escaped from behind the Iron Curtain. She fully understood that they were running from a place where their voices didn’t matter, and where elections were a farce.

She believes democracy is more important than any politician or any party. She says, “As the supervisor of elections of Seminole County, my only loyalty would be to protect the voice of the individual voter.”
