Our December 2021 Activist of the Month, Cyndi Plamondon, is one of our Florida natives, born and raised in Jacksonville with one sister and one brother! Her mother was a teacher and principal, and her father was a salesman – first liquor and then insurance.
Cyndi graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration in Accounting and Information Systems from the University of North Florida (UNF) and completed her course work for her Master’s in Public Administration from UNF, as well. After college, she began her career in Internal Audit working in a number of different industries – insurance and financial services with Prudential, as Inspector General at her alma mater – UNF, and in medical supply distribution with PSS World Medical. She moved to the Orlando area in 1999 when she joined The Institute of Internal Auditors, which is a membership organization for the profession. As Chief Officer, she was responsible for training, conferences, certifications, advocacy, and many other activities.
Cyndi is very happily to Brian, who she met in 2002. Between them, they have five children and three grandchildren. Since the grandchildren all live less than 2 hours away, she really enjoys spending time with them as often as possible.
She got into politics because she wanted to feel as if she was part of the solution in improving local politics. Cyndi says, “It is one thing to complain and be upset; but we need to take action to help make improvements.” Cyndi joined the SemDems in August of 2020 to help with the elections that year. She volunteers every week in the SemDems office, helping people and doing computer work. She indicates that what she likes best is “working with the other great volunteers!”
Now that she is semi-retired doing only consulting work, she can further indulge her hobbies—travel and crafts – scrapbooks, counted cross stitch, and beading. Over time, Cyndi has traveled to more than 60 countries with many more on the list! The SemDems are lucky to have someone with her wealth of experience on our team. Hopefully, she will stay close enough to home during 2022 to help keep Seminole County blue!
