Congratulations to our October Activist of the Month--Denny Troncoso! Born in the Dominican Republic, Denny moved with his family to NYC at age 3. They then moved to Orlando when he was 10 in 1998. Denny really did not want to leave NYC, but his parents wanted a better life for him and his sister. He also has a brother who is 12 years older and was away in the Navy while Denny was growing up.
Denny’s father is an accountant by trade, and he worked in the field until Denny was about 8 years old. When they moved to Florida, his dad worked as a maintenance tech due to the language barrier. His mother has been a cook, housekeeper and entrepreneur starting both a daycare and cleaning company. Denny says, “I can thank my dad for my numbers skills and my mom for my entrepreneurial drive.”
Denny is proud to be a tried and true a product of a Central Florida education. He went to Valencia College for his Associate degree, then to UCF for his Bachelor’s degree in management in 2013 and his Master’s degree in real estate in 2017. Currently, he is pursuing a Master’s in Entrepreneurship in Applied Technologies from USF, with graduation expected in 2022. He married his beautiful wife Dessiree Troncoso in 2017, after dating for 5 years. And, their first child (a boy) is on the way, due in January 2021!
Denny has worked in financial services and real estate for over 15 years in Orlando, FL. First, he worked as a personal financial advisor for about 5 years helping people with 401ks, IRAs, debt elimination, insurance, etc. In 2010, he started an investment company to help investors who had capital to diversify their portfolios with real estate. Currently, his company owns and operates several apartment buildings with investors.
Denny explained he has always liked to attend political rallies. His first one was for Obama in 2008. Then during 2018, he started attending events, canvassing and making calls, usually for the Bill Nelson campaign. In August 2019, he joined the SemDems as he wanted to volunteer at a place where his efforts would make a difference. Denny lives in Orange county, but since it is safely Blue, he decided turning Seminole County Blue too was a worthy goal. He says his main goal is to get Trump out of office. Additionally, Denny is hoping to help turn Senate Seat 9 Blue to prevent partisan gerrymandering during redistricting in 2021.
About the SemDems he says, “I enjoy supporting and leading teams, organizing events, marketing and fundraising. It makes me realize I’m not the only one who is concerned about the toxic political situation our country is in. There are many other people concerned and willing to fight for what is right with me. It is also fun to volunteer; we have a great group of folks.”
In addition to his SemDems work, Denny indicates, “I’m a big reader, probably reading close to 100 books per year with a mix of business, biographies, economics and history. I love to travel and meet people from different cultures and backgrounds. Also, enjoying time with friends drinking a cocktail or sharing a meal are some of my favorite things to do.” The SemDems is indeed lucky to call Denny one of our own!
