Congratulations to our June activist of the month- Patrick Westerfield!

Our SemDems June Activist of the Month, Patrick Westerfield, should be well-known to SemDems’ members as he has been an active participant in our organization for decades!

Patrick was born in Kentucky, but re-located to Central Florida in the late 1960s with his parents, two brothers and two sisters. Patrick’s father was the Building Construction Coordinator for Florida Technological University (now UCF). Patrick’s mother worked for the Seminole County Schools as a “lunch lady.” While working there, she was very active in her union and was on their contract negotiating team. She worked with them to obtain a first-ever uniform allowance for the food service workers. She also served on Oviedo’s Planning and Zoning Board for 15-years.

Supporting Democrats has been a part of Patrick's life since he was very young.

Both of his parents were Precinct Captains. Some of Patrick’s earliest memories include walking the Precinct with his Mom. Due
to a babysitting challenge, they brought Patrick to an Executive Committee (now known as the SemDems) meeting and he loved it and has been participating ever since. As soon as he turned 18, Patrick registered to vote and became a member of the DEC the following month. He joined four other family members serving on the Executive Committee, and became the youngest Precinct Captain in the state.

Patrick earned his Associate in the Arts degree from Seminole Community College (now Seminole State), then transferred to UCF to complete his B
A in Political Science with a minor in History. He later earned his law degree from St. Thomas University. In the past, Patrick has worked for the Public Defender’s office in Orange and Osceola counties, then for the Florida Department of Health. He currently practices law with the Law Offices of Clint Curtis and Associates in Orlando, focusing on business, administrative and bankruptcy law.

Patrick has been a terrific asset to the SemDems organization and has done just about everything in his time with us---he just jumps in and does whatever needs to be done. He has recently contributed his time on Saturdays to notarize documents for  volunteers who want to be Precinct Captains in the years 2021-2024.

“The feeling of common purpose in electing good people to make the world a better place” is what Patrick likes best about participating in SemDems.
