He stood up for civil rights by sitting down at a lunch counter. She was an agent of change as a long-serving Sanford City Commissioner. And reaching out to your Democratic neighbors just got easier.

We Are THIS CLOSE to Becoming the Majority Party in Seminole County
Registered Democrats are within striking distance of overtaking registered Republicans in Seminole County. We are only 2,900 voters shy of becoming the MAJORITY party in our previously bright-red county. Help us register new voters!
Lift with Your Legs: The SemDems Are Moving!
SemDems is moving next month to a larger and more functional office space ironically located on Ronald Reagan Boulevard (aka CR 427). Our actual move-in date is TBD and yes, we will need help packing up and moving. Watch this space.

We had two guest speakers in honor of Black History Month.
Sylvester Smith is a SemDems precinct captain who also was one of the famed Greensboro Four. Mr. Smith, along with other students at North Carolina A&T College, challenged the segregation laws that prohibited people of color from the same rights and services as whites.
Mr. Smith was part of the famed “sit-in” at the F.W. Woolworth Lunch Counter that led to desegregation of restaurants, hotels, and public services.
Dr. Velma Williams served for 21 years as District 2 City of Sanford Commissioner – only the second African-American to be elected for this position. During her term, Dr. Williams’ many achievements include the Historic Goldsboro Streetscape rehabilitation project, renovation of Coastline Park, and the two-million-dollar renovation of the Westside Community Center – a beautiful facility that was recently renamed in her honor.

Once again, our membership committee outdid itself with a beautiful and delicious tableful of treats and snacks. From pinwheel sandwiches to fresh fruit to mouthwatering mini cupcakes, we appreciate the hard work and culinary talents of our membership team.
