Seminole Democrats Go on the Offensive

Saturday, June 10th, Seminole County Democrats will move beyond social media posts and begin the on-the-ground effort to turn the county blue in the next election cycle with the largest canvassing event ever in Sanford. It is an opportunity for the hundreds of newly energized Democrats who have been turning out for the monthly SemDems meetings to get actively involved by knocking on doors and making phone calls to the more than 20,000 known Democrats in Sanford.

SemDems Canvassing Door KnockThe idea, says SemDems’ Precinct Activity Lead Paul Diaz Truman is to get them politically organized, “The 13 Sanford precincts are currently represented by only 5 volunteer Precinct Committee People who will lead campaign efforts.  The goals are to recruit at least 25 Precinct Committee People, and develop these precincts so they can run their own campaign events.”

The target on Saturday, June 10th, will be to contact 10,000 Democrats who voted at least once in 2016. The method is simple, “We will assign groups of two to three to each neighborhood with a map, a script to follow and a list of Democrats to contact,” explains Truman. “We will meet at 9 a.m., have the groups in their areas by 10:30 and be done by one. We need 300 volunteers to make the goal.”

Volunteers can RSVP here.

The canvassing headquarters for the June10th event will be at:

In addition to looking for Precinct Captains, canvassers will invite voters to attend a Meet and Greet for SemDems on June 17, ask them to sign up for Vote by Mail and sign two petitions, for Voter Restoration and for Congresswoman Stephanie Murphy’s re-election.

“From the governorship to the numerous county-wide elections, “ says Truman, “Seminole County can only go BLUE in 2018 if we go to the heart of where Seminole County Democrats live— we’re going to be starting in Sanford and working our way across Seminole County.”
